Earth and Beyond Emulator

Many years ago I used to play a game called ‘Earth and Beyond’, it was created by Westwood studios and published by EA games. Sadly it got shut down, which was a great shame as the game was really ahead of its time. the basic fundamental gameplay of the game was rock solid and to be honest, a relaunch of the game with more modern MMO features could be hugely successful, but anyway, I digress!

Whilst going though my old computer archives I stumbled upon some models of the Terran Scout I made whilst I was working on the emulator for the game. I started thinking about how the emulator was coming along and pondered giving it a try, more so since I have become incredibly bored with Star Trek Online. That very same day I received an email from an old friend I used to play alongside in the game, I took it as fate and reinstalled the game and I have to say I was not disappointed!

The Emulator has come a long long way over the last few years and is currently in Stress Testing, it now has almost all the skills back in-game, as well as grouping, combat, mining, questing and even factions. The mob AI is still a bit primitive, but considering it has been built from the bottom up its pretty impressive. For obvious reasons the emulator can not charge money as this would cause legal issues, but donations to help with maintaining the server are appreciated.

I’d strongly suggest that anyone that played Earth and Beyond gives the emulator a try, even if you’ve never played Earth and beyond either, this is a good game to try out, just remember it is still in beta testing. You can find the main website at the following link:-

I really like that scout model that you made. It’s sweet. 😀

I’ve never played this game but it looks pretty cool. I hate it when I can’t play a game that I love anymore, no matter the reason (usually in my case it’s because I “upgraded” Windows and the friggin’ new version doesn’t like the game, which is one reason I don’t upgrade anymore.) So, I understand where you’re coming from but at least you’re able to do something about it.

Good luck with the Emulator. I hope it turns out well for you. 🙂

One of the things missing from star trek that E&B had over NINE years ago was exploration! You actually felt like you where this ship traveling in the universe exploring it. You just don’t get the sense of wonder from STO that you get from E&B. Heck, you actually get exploration experience just by going places!

Not only that, but the itemisation was done in such away that you ‘always’ had a carrot on a stick infront of you! STO has 10 Tiers of item, yet they are unlocked by new ship types, STO would of been far better if it had 3 XP types like EnB with ships unlocking with overall levels and then weapons, shields, engines etc unlocking with your trade, exploration and combat XP.

You are right though, the exploration in EnB was great, you could spend hours in a system and stumble upon hidden nav points, mob spawns and resources that you never knew existed there!

Hi Suri, this is TigerByte 😀

Hell, i have to say – I LOVE IT !!!

Its so good to be back in and the emulator runs pretty stable recently.
Only one thing im missing since the emu got in hand of private use: we can make the mmo better as it was from the sturdy EA support. No patching-to-death and some changes to have more fun since most of the players are old EnBs.
You know as good as i do, the game from stock wasnt as good as it could be seen from the gameplay side 😉

yeah yeah, i know, there is a lot of discution about but anyway, im happy to play it after 10 years again.

keep it rolling dude, you guys do a great work !!

Yaei,God i love this game,i hate EA for closing this game^^ I play on the Emu,and its so great,i love the peopels they have the power, and the will to bringing up this game again. You must make new models, the Emu gives the chance,to give EnB a new unique look, you artworks are so fantastic,i love it.

And to all other,go and play EnB,i think it is better than STO,sure,it is a normal mmo, with normal playsystem, but it is Science Fiction,in a Unique World, and the developer from EnB Emu have working very hard, give them a try,i Swear, the EnB Emu is Fantastic.

I had a quick look at everything including youtube. Can’t say it’s my cup of tea I was too spoiled with the “Wing Commander” gaming era the only recent game I liked was Freelancer. I know it’s not an mmo but it came close until stuff like X3 and EVE spoiled us.

Hey guys, I’m trying to look into it, sadly all my contact details for the developers operated though the server that seems to be down right now. As soon as I can find out what is going on I’ll get a post made here.

I heard there was a way of getting in. I know that if you change the address in the field on the net-7 launch to the address. I know that you can see how many players on online.. currently 65. I have no idea how to change the parameters to log in though 😦

  12. Hrarthgar says:

Hi all, just follow this, it should help…

David and crew are aware of the problem, and are working on it. Server issue.

There is a work around to login, which is working for everyone. But if you break your pc, dont blame me.
I would make a backup of the Host file first.

Click Start -> Run and type notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Hit Enter and Notepad should open your hosts file.

Replace everything with the text below:

    # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol.
    # For example:
    # # source server
    # # x client host

    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself. localhost

Save the file then run launcher. Should let you into game no problems. To return to original once they repair DNS just delete the last 2 line entries in hosts file by running the notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Thanks to the von corp guild site for me finally finding this… but since when I search enb this pops up faster I thougth I would hsare my findings ehre. =)
